Dear MLB: Please stop ruining your hats with dumb patches

Permit me a brief rant about something important: Those dumb, unnecessary MLB hat patches.

For the second straight season, MLB’s spring training hats feature a shield-shaped patch on the side that announces either “FL” for Florida or “AZ” for Arizona, the two places where spring training has been held for decades, in case you didn’t know. But of course you knew.

But I’ll never stop fighting the good hat fight. To everyone who’s with me, I tip my (non-patch) hat in your direction.

“That’s what I want to make sure I articulate. (Watson is) always the same with his character and integrity, and he’s at his best in the biggest moment.”

Watson led the Tigers to two consecutive trips to the College Football Playoff final after dominating the ACC, the same conference in which North Carolina’s Mitchell Trubisky started for one season. Watson also outplayed Notre Dame’s DeShone Kizer in the same game, in the same rain, against a semi-conference rival, during the latter’s better of two seasons.

There can be a lot of ways in which NFL teams keep knocking Watson and moving him down their boards, much like every single flawed young QB who comes into the league. When weighing all things, however, nothing weighs as heavily in his favor as the kind of experience every team on every level covets most.

Swinney believes that gives Watson a chance to go as high as No. 1 overall, above any player at any position.

“He’s got plenty of consideration. He won’t be sitting there long,” Swinney said. “Don’t buy all the stuff you hear. Wherever he goes, he will be great. They’ll Cheap Jerseys Vip all figure it out.”

Broncos Super Bowl gear may also be part of Tom Brady’s jersey heist

Early Monday morning, the NFL confirmed Tom Brady’s stolen jersey from Super Bowl 51 was discovered. Not only that, but Tom Brady’s jersey from Super Bowl 49 was also found, and there could be more, according to Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer.

“Frankly, we want the officials to keep the flags in their waists, and we want the players to celebrate,” he said.

The rule about “prolonged or excessive celebrations” (the phrase used in the official NFL rule book) will not change, Vincent said. Players still cannot go to the ground, use props, involve pylons, the goal post or crossbar, or do anything premeditated or choreographed.

Clearly, though, the mildest possible violations last season — the 49ers making snow angels, Vernon Davis shooting a free throw over a goal post, Josh Norman’s bow-and-arrow imitation — are the ones Vincent prefers to be left alone from now on.

“We want officials to officiate the game,” he Cheap Jerseys Kids NFL said. “You’re not going to see rule changes, we just want to clarify and bring clarity for all.”

As part of that, though, he said, without elaborating, “We think clear examples are better for our players and our coaches … There are some acts that don’t belong in the game.”

Hence, the video, which presumably will illustrate which acts will get flagged despite the emphasis on erasing the increasing perception that anything beside handing the ball to the official will become a 15-yard penalty.

That may or may not include marriage proposals to the kicking net (by Odell Beckham) and twerking (from Antonio Brown).

MLB’s first African-born player Gift Ngoepe singles in first AB

Gift Ngoepe’s singular MLB debut came with a single in his first at-bat.

The Pirates infielder, the first African-born player in major-league history, did better than hold back the tears he said he probably would shed when manager Clint Hurdle called on him. Ngoepe, 27, got a clean base hit off Cubs starter Jon Lester to start the fourth inning Wednesday in Pittsburgh.

“I was like, ‘you’re in the big leagues, you’ve got to be a big guy,’” he recalled afterward (via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette).

“I can’t say enough about his mental strength through this,” first-year Rockies manager Bud Black said. “We’ll find out more as we go about where this is headed and where he is as it relates to baseball.”

At 14-8 the Rockies winningest pitcher in 2016, Bettis, 27, underwent surgery Nov. 29 to remove the cancerous cells. The surgery was deemed a success in December, and Bettis didn’t need chemotherapy or radiation treatment.

Still, there will be periodic tests to make sure the cancer hasn’t returned — a patient isn’t considered truly cancer-free until five years out — and Wednesday’s report was an early, significant hurdle cleared.

“Now I have some clarity,” he said. “When I can get away from what the doctor is going to say, it puts my mind at ease.”

He will continue to be monitored, but Cheap Jerseys Cn for now he can go about preparing for a season in which he’ll be the veteran leader on a talented young staff that includes Jon Gray, 24, and two 26-year-old Tylers, Chatwood and Anderson.

Joe Maddon goes on sarcastic tirade day after controversial slide ruling

For now, the list of teams with a potential interest in Jay Cutler starts with…the New York Jets.

Cutler’s eight seasons in Chicago were marred by Cheap Jarome Iginla Jerseys various injuries. A shoulder injury last season limited him to just five games. Cutler also led the NFL in interceptions in 2014 with 18 picks thrown in 15 games.

Cutler was a first-round pick of the Broncos in 2006, but traded to the Bears following his only Pro Bowl season in 2008. After throwing for a career-high 4,526 yards with 25 touchdowns and 18 interceptions, he threw for 3,666 with 27 touchdowns in his first season with the Bears. But he also led the NFL with 26 interceptions in 2009, which was the only year in which he played all 16 games in a season.

Joe Maddon is still peeved about the MLB’s emphasis on player safety one day after a would-be Cubs rally ended thanks to an overslide against the Cardinals.

The Chicago manager on Sunday sarcastically railed against the rule, which dictates a double play occurs if a player slides too far past a bag.

Gotta say, this is some grade-A passive aggression by Maddon, following Ian Happ’s slide on Saturday that got the Cardinals out of a jam in the fifth inning.

You can see why Maddon might be frustrated, as he said yesterday that the slide rule has no place in the game. But it’s probably not the best look making light of league efforts to limit player injuries, no matter how mad he is.

Falcons sign president Rich McKay to 5-year extension

The Falcons have signed president and chief executive officer Rich McKay to a five-year contract extension through June 2022, the team announced Tuesday.

“Rich has been so important to our businesses and Atlanta’s growth for many years,” said Steve Cannon, AMB Group, LLC, chief executive officer. “We are thrilled to extend his contract with the Falcons and AMB Sports & Entertainment.

He parlayed that into entering 2014 as the unquestioned No. 1 QB and got the Eagles off to a 6-2 start before suffering a season-ending broken collarbone. The following offseason saw him traded to the Rams, where he fizzled out in one year as a starter before being released last summer. He spent 2016 backing up Alex Smith with the Chiefs but appeared in only three games.

Now back in Philadelphia, Foles won’t face the pressure of being a starter but will help Eagles coach Doug Pederson — his quarterbacks coach the first time around — feel better about depth behind Wentz. It also means incumbent backup Chase Daniel likely is available via trade.

Foles can make up to $11 million during the deal, NFL Media reported, with $7 million of it guaranteed.

The Reds will acquire left-handed pitcher Andrew McKirahan and Cheap Goalie Jerseys right-handed pitcher Carlos Portuondo from the Braves in exchange for Phillips.

Fox Sports reported Saturday the sides were close to a deal. The Reds on Sunday announced the transaction was official, tweeting a statement from general manager Dick Williams.

Johnny Manziel, Sean Payton reportedly met to discuss return to football

Could Johnny Manziel be closing in on a job offer from the Saints?

The troubled free-agent quarterback is drawing interest from New Orleans coach Sean Payton as a potential backup for quarterback Drew Brees, NFL Network reported Thursday.

According to the report, Manziel and Payton had breakfast during Super Bowl weekend in Houston and discussed Manziel’s potential return to football. While Manziel has no chance at earning the starting spot, Brees could serve as a valuable veteran mentor for the former Browns first-round pick.

Manziel, who was released by Cleveland last March, hasn’t played since December 2015 and has a reported six-game suspension hanging over his head for a misdemeanor assault case. Despite the 2012 Heisman Trophy winner’s many legal issues, Manziel claims to have his life together and is focused on getting back on the field.

Still, the reported interest he’s drawing from teams around the NFL has yet to turn into a contract offer.

Major League Baseball has been proactive in teaching the game around the world. In fact, its approach is not simply about teaching the fundamentals of the game; it’s also about education — real classroom education.

Worldwide events don’t become prestigious after a decade. It’s silly to think Cheap Hats And Jerseys that after 11 years and four cycles that the WBC would reach World Cup-level prestige. That’s just not the way things work. That’s why the tournament will take time to gain a foothold in the U.S.

In reality, the impact MLB is having on the world aside from the WBC is huge. And that’s a great thing.

Cowboys WR Ryan Switzer letting fans help choose new jersey number

Pereira: I don’t know. I haven’t seen all the plays yet. I think (the NFL) started to go too far when all of a sudden taking a jump shot with the ball over a goal-post became a celebration penalty because you were using the football as a basketball. Those types of things really created a lot of consternation from the fans.

I think that the ticky-tack ones (officials) will start to back away from, which they should. They just need to look at the back to the major things like the going-to-the-ground to some kind of simulated routine and those types of things and lay off the ones that just create a lot of angst in people that are watching the games. They are going to have a video they are going to show all the teams on what is and what is not (illegal).

I don’t buy what the NFL Referees Association said with “Let’s forget the referees calling penalties and just let the league fine the ones that they think are excessive.” If you do that, you are kind of encouraging people to celebrate and say, “You know what? I don’t care about the $10,000. I’m going to do this really egregious routine and it won’t cost my team the 15-yard penalty.” You take away the 15-yard penalty, you take Cheap Authentic Jerseys away one of the biggest deterrents. But it will certainly be looser, which I do think it should be.

After being picked by the Cowboys during last week’s NFL Draft, Ryan Switzer is leaving his jersey number pick up to the fans.

The new Dallas wide receiver won’t be able to wear the No. 3 jersey he sported playing in college at North Carolina, so he took to Twitter on Monday asking fans to help him choose a new number he’ll wear professionally.

Switzer, who was selected by Dallas in the fourth round on Saturday, finished his college career at UNC as the school’s all-time leader in receptions (243) and receiving yards (2,903) in addition to holding the ACC record for punt return touchdowns (seven).

The Mets are a frightening mess, so let’s see who we can blame

On Wednesday, Robert Gsellman was awful and his fastball lacked its normal velocity. The Mets lost again, and when everyone woke up on Thursday, Noah Syndergaard couldn’t lift his arm above his head. His start was taken by Matt Harvey, who was noticeably uncomfortable on the mound. After his velocity was down and his command was off, he told reporters that he didn’t know he was pitching until a few hours before the game, and that he had worked out hard the previous day in anticipation of a day off. In that same game, Yoenis Cespedes limped off the field and into a hospital for an MRI.

“The amount of attention being paid is unreal,” ESPN business reporter Darren Rovell said over the phone on Wednesday. “You can say all you want about ‘Stop talking about LaVar Ball, he’ll go away,’ but the people don’t want to stop hearing from him. They secretly love him. He’s an incredible speaker. He’s not a dumb man. As far as media icons go, LaVar Ball is there.”

And while critics and fans alike are quick to proclaim that LaVar Best Place For Cheap Jerseys is hurting his son’s upcoming chances with the NBA, that simply hasn’t proven true. Lonzo’s draft stock as a top-five pick in the 2017 NBA draft is as safe as ever, because at the bottom of all this hoopla is one simple fact: the Balls can, well, ball.

Some other QBs on our list were challenged sufficiently in their biggest games

Clemson wouldn’t have made either Playoff without Watson, though, and the fact that his team went 5-1 in his postseason starts — can you imagine how few QBs in college history can boast of six postseason starts? — reflects stupendously on him.

He lit up Alabama, Alabama again, North Carolina, and Virginia Tech, and did most of his damage against Ohio State and Oklahoma on the ground.

Even without those, he was still quite tested. Overall in 2016, Clemson faced nine of the top 22 defenses and no truly bad FBS defenses. The best defense Mahomes faced in 2016, No. 37 West Virginia, ranked worse than Watson’s average FBS opponent.

Some other QBs on our list were challenged sufficiently in their biggest games, but none faced relentless competition like Watson did.

One statistically bizarre win streak, though, can’t make up for an uninspired team built by a front office — Gar Forman and John Paxson — that is damn near universally hated by its fan base. They apparently toyed with the idea of trading Butler at the trade deadline, and ultimately pulled back from that idea.

That was Chicago for 82 games: poorly constructed, infrequently motivated, and Nike NFL Jerseys actively disregarding the direction that modern basketball is headed. In Game 6 on Friday when they finally lost their first round series against Boston, their fans looked like this.

We should go back to those first two games, though, when Chicago whipped the Celtics for two games before they were inevitably crushed. For the first time all season, the Bulls were really, actually, truly … kind of fun? Could that be right?

Titans hope Corey Davis is the draft’s best WR. Will small-school talent translate?

Corey Davis was one of the most productive wideouts in college history. The question now is whether his “Tuesday Night MACtion” translates to NFL Sundays.

The Titans bet big on the 6’3 wideout after investing the fifth pick of the 2017 NFL Draft on the WMU Bronco.

In his final three years at Western Michigan, he averaged 88 receptions, 1,446 yards and 15 touchdowns per season. No player in the history of the Mid-American Conference — not even the great Antonio Brown, who attended Central Michigan — has come within 1,000 yards of Davis’ career production.

Davis was one of the nation’s most dynamic receivers last fall, but his biggest games came against opponents not exactly known for their defense. He only had five games with 100-plus receiving yards, versus North Carolina Central, Northern Illinois, Ball State, Buffalo, and Ohio.

“It’s hard in the heat of the moment to know when to pass when you got it Cheap Youth Soccer Jerseys going like that, when to score and Isaiah seems so poised every time,” Al Horford said. “Making the right decision, when to pass the ball, when to shoot it. And you can’t be mad at him because he’s scoring the ball so well when he’s taking shots. He just has that feel.”

The moment belonged to Isaiah Thomas and when the moment was gone, he slipped back into his life as a grieving brother trying to make sense of a senseless tragedy. There will be more moments, and he needs as many of them as he can get right now. They are for him and his sister, who wouldn’t let him quit. It would all be so unbelievable if it wasn’t so real.
