Gerald McCoy says DL additions weren’t about him but the team

Gerald McCoy loves the signing of Jason Pierre-Paul and the drafting of Vita Vea in the first round. He hates that some are saying the additions of five defensive linemen were to help him.

It’s not about me. It’s about the team, McCoy said, via Allana Barefield of the Tampa Bay Times. Stop saying it’s about Gerald got help. No, the Bucs got help.

ESPN reported Thursday that the suspension is a result of the 32-year-old’s violation of the NFL’s performance-enhancing substance policy. Edelman’s apology confirmed the suspension and that he is appealing the ban.

The two-time Super Bowl champ apologized to the Kraft family, his coaches, teammates and fans in his social media message.

Mason’s been everything we’ve asked, for sure, Fichtner said, via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Throws, obviously, a nice ball. The physical things are all there. Obviously mentally and learning is an acquired taste; that’s going to come through reps, physical reps, in-helmet perspectives, things that you’re not going to get and it’s not going to happen overnight.

If Rudolph’s progress continues through camp, the Steelers may have a call to make about who will be the No. 2 quarterback come September. They aren’t going to cut Rudolph, so the question will be if he’s shown enough to supplant Landry Jones as the next man up behind Ben Roethlisberger. Fichtner’s comments suggest there’s a chance that’s how things will play out.

Latimer was endorsed by Tyke Tolbert, the Giants’ new receivers coach, who worked with Latimer in Denver. His skill on special teams kept him in the league and figures to keep him with the Giants — nearly all of his one-year, $2.5 million contract is guaranteed. He might eventually emerge as the kick returner as well.

It’s the mentality on special teams, he said. Ain’t nobody gonna stop me.

David Quessenberry: I’ll be there for Andre Hal any way I can

When Texans safety Andre Hal announced that he’s been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma on Friday, we noted that his teammate David Quessenberry battled a similar disease in 2014 and returned to play two games for the Texans last season.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame has a list of its values, Ira writes, commitment, integrity, courage, respect and excellence. On that scale, Owens is 1-for-5, batting .200.

That’s more than a little harsh, and a more than a little unfair. Ira concedes T.O.’s excellence. But how can Owens’ integrity be questioned? He may be a jerk at times (he once called me Satan), but Owens never tried to be anyone other than who he is. That’s strong evidence of integrity.

Courage? Owens played in the Super Bowl with a broken leg, and he would have been the MVP of the game if enough of his teammates had played half as well as he did that day. His courage can’t be questioned.

The former second-team All-American selection at Mississippi has yet to record a single sack in his NFL career despite accounting for 16 sacks in his three years at Ole Miss. Nevertheless, Nkemdiche is optimistic he’ll still be able to become a productive member of the Cardinals defense.

I know I can, Nkemdiche said, via Bob McManaman of the Arizona Republic. I know I can be dominant on a consistent basis throughout the year, and that’s what I’m going to be and that’s what I’m going to do.

It’s only because of what I’ve been doing in the offseason to make sure I am consistent and I have the ability to do that throughout the season. I’m going to be that guy for the Cardinals and be that guy for the teammates and be that guy for the guys who put the work in just like I do.

Nkemdiche appeared in just five games as a rookie and recorded just one tackle as Cardinals coaches voiced their frustrations with him throughout the year. While Nkemdiche was in a better place with the coaching staff last year, he still was fairly unproductive. He tallied just 11 tackles and a forced fumble in 12 games for the Cardinals last year.

Carr had a shaky 2017 season after getting his big contract, and getting him right is the top priority for new coach Jon Gruden.

Manuel made one start in place of Carr last season, which seems to be the limit for him in his role. Cook can be developed more, and Johnson gives the Raiders a presence who’s been in a lot of QB rooms.

Bradford figures to be the favorite to start over Rosen. At some point, if the rookie first-round pick progresses well, Glennon might be expendable. It will take a while for the Cardinals to reach the level they enjoyed in Carson Palmer’s best days, but getting Rosen No. 10 overall feels like a steal for the long term.

The Bolts gave up a league-worst 4.9 yards per rush last season, and some of their struggles in the running game had to do with uneven play at the second level of their defense. If the Chargers want to compete with electric running back Kareem Hunt and the Chiefs for an AFC West crown, they need more rangy athletes who can make sure tackles in the open field. — Eric D. Williams

GM Dave Gettleman will address his lines, even if it’s not with the No. 2 overall pick. This is an especially deep interior offensive lineman draft, which plays well for the Giants at 34 and with one of their two third-round picks (66 and 69). — Jordan Raanan

Then snag an offensive skill position player early in the second. The Super Bowl champs have a league-low six picks at the moment. They can add to their stockpile by selling their No. 32 pick, potentially to a quarterback-needy team. The top of the second round looks like a good spot to land a difference-making running back. — Tim McManus

The Chargers were patient with Rivers, and it paid off with a 14-2 record in his first full season as a starter. Other than two down seasons at the end of the Norv Turner area, he has thrived as efficient and durable, two of the most important elements for happy returns from a franchise QB.

Jaguars owner Shad Khan’s wealth has grown by $125 million.

Just in time for the slow time, folks who cover football have a new white whale: Outing NFL figures who have social media burner accounts.

Carr did say Gruden makes things “uncomfortable” for Cheap Baseball Jerseys Kids players, adding that “it’s going to be nice” once games start because practices can be so uncomfortable.

“I meet with him every morning,” Carr said, via the East Bay Times. “He’ll say something to me at 5:30 and won’t bring it up the rest of the day. Then he’ll throw it at me in practice, making sure I’m still on top of the little thing he gave me in the morning. He just continues to push me and get everything out of me and it’s been really cool.”

A good relationship between Carr and Gruden doesn’t guarantee success come September, but it certainly makes it likelier than the alternative.

In 2012, Namath decided to get his brain checked out at a hospital near his home in Jupiter, Fla.

I wanted to know where I was going, he said.

A brain scan revealed dead cells on the left side and back of his brain. There was no blood flow. He began hyperbaric oxygen therapy. It worked, and his follow-up scans showed improved blood flow in his brain.
